Obama Administration Changes Midstream The Affordable Care Act

The Hens Are Coming To Roost

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (now the Affordable Care Act) was such a voluminous law that we were told “We have to pass this law in order to see what is in it”. Wasn’t that Nancy Pelosi’s argument for passage?  To that advice I would like to quote our forefather James Madison from a reference I recently read in the introduction section of Tom G. Palmer’s book Realizing Freedom Libertarian Theory, History, and Practice (copyright 2009).

In the Federalist No. 62 Madison discussed mutable legal policy, he wrote:  “It poisons the blessings of liberty itself. It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man, who knows what the law is today, can guess what it will be tomorrow. Law is defined to be a rule of action, but how can that be a rule, which is little known, and less fixed”?

Underscoring Madison’s advice about making laws that are forever changing, these past two weeks we learned that the White House has decided to suspend parts of the Affordable Care Act. The employer mandate portion of the law is put on hold, at least until 2015.  Tampering further, the Administration has also suspended any need for proof to claim eligibility for a health insurance subsidy. The subsidy portion of the law is intended to help lower income person’s afford an insurance policy.  While the employers are getting a pass the individual is being required to play ball by the beginning of 2014. The ineptitude of this Administration is mindboggling. How much more of this are we all going to stand?

To further highlight the plans of big government.

White House ramps up effort to sell Obamacare

Image“On Wednesday, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is scheduled to outline how the government will reach out to uninsured Americans through community health centers.”

So this is what Ms. Sebelius and the government envisions for America. Let’ s promise health care for all and as more and more people become eligible due to either our incompetence as a government or worse yet through devious scheming, we can stick them all at the local community health center and the government sponsored hospitals.  Let’s forget the much larger and more efficient market providers in private practice.

I warned America after the unbelievable Supreme Court Hearing that it was going to be Medicaid for all, not even Medicare for all.  All those poor young uniformed Americans who continue to believe that the government’s mandate to engage in commerce for health insurance was going to solve all of our concerns about health care access and cost… The truth is revealing itself and it isn’t pretty.  Speaking of the truth, I continue to maintain that forcing citizens to engage in commerce regardless of need or desire is unconstitutional, no matter how our Supreme Courts try to rationalize their decision.

Disclaimer:  I am not a lawyer, but common sense is something not exclusive to any single profession.
